Judge Marvin R. Halbert played a key role in arranging many theatrical
events, mostly by attorneys and other legal professionals, for public
enjoyment as well as for jurors serving in City Hall and the
local legal community. Some of the best known and fondly remembered
events were:
- Gilbert & Sullivan's "Trial By Jury" co-produced by Judge Halbert with
A. Taylor Williams for several years in a City Hall courtroom to standing-room-only
crowds.
- The original play "The Trial of William Penn," co-produced with A. Taylor
Williams in City Hall. The televised version of this play was circulated
around the country for educational purposes.
- Off Broad Street Lunchtime Theater series, to ease jurors' stress
- "Verdict in Detroit" co-produced with A. Taylor Williams
- "Balooney Tunes" - children's theater
- "Sly Fox" (see Philadelphia Inquirer
article)
- "Constitution Capers" on stage at Independence Square, with satirical
materials written by attorneys
